TWO OPTIONS TO BECOME AN IPDTA CERTIFIED DOG TRAINER/MEMBER
The IPDTA - International Positive Dog Training Association offers two options to achieve the prestigious IPDTA-CDT Certification & Designation (IPDTA Certified Dog Trainer) and lifetime professional membership. All members must adhere strictly to 100% force-free, positive methods with both dogs and their guardians. Any verified use of aversive tools or techniques intended to intimidate, frighten or cause pain or discomfort (physical or psychological) will result in immediate and permanent revocation of membership.

OPTION #1 – IPDTA – International Positive Dog Training Association
​Comprehensive & Practical Certification Examination

Candidates complete the following:
​
  • A written examination including 200 true/false and multiple choice questions including: Instruction, Business Management, Animal Husbandry, Ethology, Learning Theory, Terminology, Training, Behaviour and Aggression.
  • Submission of a series of practical video assessments demonstrating exclusively positive training techniques
  • A one-time lifetime membership and certification fee of $500 CAD inclusive.

Upon successful completion of the IPDTA Comprehensive & Practical Certification examination you will be awarded IPDTA Certification, IPDTA-CDT Designation - Example: Jennifer Sauder, IPDTA-CDT (IPDTA Certified Dog Trainer) and full lifetime membership, including a certificate of Certification & Membership and listing in the official IPDTA Online Dog Trainer Directory.

OPTION #2 – CCS – Canine Correspondence Studies
Professional Dog Training, Behaviour & Aggression Therapy Certification Career Course

Candidates complete the internationally recognized CCS Professional Dog Trainer, Behaviour & Aggression Therapy Certification Career Course (developed and administered by IPDTA Founder and Chair; Norma Jeanne Laurette). This comprehensive, self-paced program consists of three progressive modules:

  • Professional Dog Training
  • Professional Canine Behaviour Therapy
  • Professional Canine Aggression Therapy

Graduates who meet all academic and practical requirements are awarded the CCS Certification & Designation CTB.ccs (Certified Dog Trainer/Behaviour Therapist of Canine Correspondence Studies) and upon approval will be granted full IPDTA-CDT certification, designation and membership. Both options uphold the highest standards of humane, science-based, positive training and ensure that every IPDTA member represents the gold standard of ethical and professional practice.
