IPDTA
Standards
-
The IPDTA is taking a stand against abuse in the name of dog training and/or behaviour modification.
-
Any tool or technique that was designed to cause fear and/or pain to a dog is not acceptable.
-
Any accepted tool or technique immediately becomes unacceptable if the subject dog shows any sign of fear or pain.
-
Any tool or technique with a high risk of misuse, abuse or malfunction in the hands of the average dog owner is not acceptable. The misuse and/or abuse of any tool or technique voted acceptable is unacceptable.
-
The IPDTA believes that although physical punishment in training may achieve quicker results, they often compromise the dog’s temperament, physical, emotional and/or psychological health and over all well-being and as result are unacceptable.
-
The IPDTA believes that with numerous, effective alternatives, there is no need or excuse for the use of physical correction in dog training.
-
The IPDTA accepts that a dog must learn to enjoy and accept reasonable handling and restraint in order to receive proper care but that any such handling or restraint that causes un-necessary physical or emotional trauma to the dog is not acceptable.
-
IPDTA members must agree to conduct training and/or behaviour modification using only IPDTA-accepted methods and/or methods that have not yet been researched yet fits into the above guidelines.
